Monica Ohlinger

After working for nearly a decade as a development editor and sales specialist in the educational publishing industry, I established Ohlinger Publishing Services in 1995. I added a new full-service division, Ohlinger Development and Editorial (ODE), in 2016. OPS and ODE merged in 2018 to become Ohlinger Studios.

I hired my first employee in 1996; as of March 2019, I have 53 employees. Over the course of its 24-year history, Ohlinger Studios has developed textbooks or supplemental materials in a wide variety of disciplines: Anthropology, Art History, Business Law, Communication, Criminal Justice, Economics, Engineering (electrical and mechanical), Entrepreneurship, Health Care, History (US, World, Western Civilization), Management, Marketing, Mathematics, Nutrition, Personal Health, Political Science, Public Speaking, Religion, Sociology, Student Success, Technical Communication, Technology (electronics, computer, mechanical, industrial), Trades (electrical, construction, plumbing, HVAC, cosmetology, hospitality, culinary).

I began my publishing career at Merrill Publishing in 1988, where I was a developmental editor of mathematics, engineering technology, and technical writing texts. After Merrill merged with Macmillan, I was promoted to Senior Developmental Editor/Sales Specialist and divided my time between developing books and working with sales representatives to close large adoptions in engineering technology.

I earned my B.A. in English from Ohio Dominican College, graduating magna cum laude with Honors.

I come from a long line of entrepreneurs; I grew up working in my father’s restaurant and pizza shop where I learned that flexibility, a willingness to work hard, and a sense of humor are critical to the success of any company. I derived my lifelong interest in education from my mother, a beloved elementary school teacher and then the bookstore manager at two universities. Her dedication to the goals of her schools and, more importantly, her devotion to their students and faculty inspired my own dedication to the delivery of exceptional content for varied audiences across disciplines.

In my free time, I am caretaker to four geriatric West Highland Terriers and the world’s greatest cat.
